How long have you been in the industry?
Going on 13 years.
What were you doing before this job and how did you get this gig?
I was working in a law firm as an office all rounder when a client who was an accountant asked me to apply for a training tax consultant role in his company. I quickly joined the company and helped them build the mortgage business – consequently getting into the world of mortgages.
Define your job in one word:
What were your real and cliché expectations of working in the industry?
I was bright eyed and thought I’d make heaps of money! I thought selling a mortgage was simple – reality was, I had to work bloody hard for it!!! I remembered some nights I was on the road until midnight! I look back now and don’t regret a thing… this tenacity led to my resilience and work ethic today!
How does the reality match up?
Reality is the saying “if it’s going to be, it’s up to me!” I believe in the world of sales, you need to push yourself and don’t give up no matter the outcome. You just have to keep striving.
How would you describe what the company does and what does your role involves?
The company is a vehicle or outlet for clients who are seeking information. My role is to educate, provide a service and assist the customer to obtain the most suitable loan for them by guiding them through the loan process one step at a time whether its their first home or 10th!
Best thing about the industry you work in:
Meeting new and interesting people and helping clients to achieve their goals! Cliche yes but its true!
What’s exciting you about the industry right now?
The continual changes and challenges.
Where do you turn for inspiration?
The beach. It reminds me of how big the ocean is and drowns out noises other than the waves – refreshing. And books – I love a good motivational read!
Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?
I love collecting antique and vintage things, particularly well made french furniture! Sometimes, I buy and sell them off eBay for a small profit!
What’s your personal motto?
Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will. – Dr Robert Anthony.
I got into broking because:
It was more exciting than income tax!
If I wasn’t doing this for a living, I’d be:
An Interior Designer.
